This month in the Cactus Garden
JULY 2005
It has been extremely difficult to decide
what to put for this update. As most of our regular customers will know, Terry
Hewitt passed away very suddenly on April 20th. This was totally unexpected as
he had been quite happily working in the nursery during the morning. Since then,
Jenny [his wife] Sue [his daughter] and David [Nursery manager] have been trying
to keep Holly Gate running as smoothly as possible. This has not been easy since
although David, has been doing a fantastic job, Terry put in hundreds of hours
caring for his plants and also doing all of the paperwork. It has taken us a
while to be able to access passwords etc. and we are now trying to catch
up with everything. We would like to thank all of our friends and customers for
their kind words and support, and hope that you will all continue to visit us
as, we are sure this is what Terry would have wished.
We are continuing to run Holly Gate as far as
possible, as normal. You can continue to order from our catalogue or we will be
delighted if you can visit us at the Nursery.
On a brighter note, the Cactus Garden has been
looking lovely. The Epiphyllums have been giving a lovely show, but are now
mostly over. They were very late flowering this year, as the weather was so cold
during May. The hard work of replanting a number of the beds in the Cactus
Garden last year has really paid off and we have had some beautiful flowers on
many of our plants.
The Echinopsis hybrids have already given us a
spectacular show of colour, but there are hundreds of flower buds which are
about to burst into another equally fantastic display.
We will try to keep the website updated, but
please be patient with us for a little while longer, while we get to grips with
how the technology works!
If you are able to visit the
Nursery we look forward to seeing you.
Jenny & Sue
