APOROPHYLLUMS
We are able to offer a limited range of small
plants of these attractive hybrids
between, in the main, Aporocactus and Epiphyllum hybrids. The plants have the
long slender pendent stems of the Aporocactus, combined with the flowers of the Epiphyllum.
Flowers are mostly 3-5 inches in diameter being produced freely in the spring.
We hope to have a much wider range available again in the summer. There are many
larger plants available to visitors to the nursery.
Plants are easy to grow and make ideal subjects for hanging baskets so that
their long stems can cascade. They require a minimum temperature of
about 42o F (6oC) in winter and prefer slight shade from the summer sun. Plants
may require the occasional light watering during winter to stop die back of the
tips of the stems, particularly if grown in a warmer environment ( i.e.
indoors). These plants respond well to regular feeding during the spring and
summer with a cactus food (such as Cactigrow) to build up the plants strength
for flowering.
